International Program

In partnership with BIRS, CMO organizes 26 workshops per year with scientists and researchers in different disciplines. Over the past 8 years, CMO has hosted 7,807 researchers from over 1,000 institutions in 84 countries. Check out the details and activity calendar at

National Program

CMO organizes several national events each year; these include Advanced Schools for students and postdocs, the National Meeting on Algebraic Geometry, the Meeting of Mexican Mathematicians Worldwide, as well as the Meeting on Low Dimensional Geometry and Topology, the Latin American and Caribbean Mathematics School, and notably, the Pacific Rim Mathematics Congress, which in 2017 brought together nearly 500 specialists.
CMO can also organize and provide logistics to support national events related to mathematics.

Regional Program

CMO has established the Oaxacan Program for Education Strengthening (PROFE) in partnership with prominent national and regional academic institutions, such as the Institute of Mathematics at UNAM, the National Pedagogical University, the Benito Juárez University of Oaxaca State, the Technological Institute of Oaxaca State, the College of Higher Studies of the Mixteca, and the Oaxacan Mathematics Olympiad. PROFE includes activities for teachers and students, such as seminars, workshops, courses, mini-courses, and outreach programs focused on women and children; mathematical festivals and outreach events for the general public. An Innovative Initiative

Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO) is a global research facility affiliated with the Banff International Research Station (BIRS) in Canada. This affiliation establishes a collaboration between CMO in Mexico and BIRS in Banff, forming an international partnership involving Canada, the United States, and Mexico, with the fundamental purpose of enriching the appreciation and understanding of mathematics in Oaxaca and Mexico, as well as improving educational quality at all levels and promoting the dissemination of mathematical methods and their beauty in Mexican society.

Gathering to Share

The fundamental role of CMO is to create a dynamic space for scientific activities where prominent researchers from around the world gather to foster academic collaboration, drive research at the forefront of knowledge, and strengthen international connections with mathematics experts. The central focus is on fostering a pleasant and relaxed environment that allows for the flourishing of innovative ideas in the field of mathematics. CMO also supports national and regional development by promoting research and teaching in mathematics.

Multidisciplinary Workshops

CMO and BIRS create joint collaborations in the form of workshops that transcend geographical and disciplinary boundaries. These workshops provide a platform for creative interaction, facilitating the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methodologies in the field of Mathematical Sciences. This interaction extends not only to related disciplines but also to various connections with industry and productive sectors; CMO's courses, workshops, and outreach programs have a widespread impact on society as a whole by promoting interest and appreciation for mathematics.
