Association of Mathematical Analysis and Mathematical Physics

Welcome to the AMA MΦ (Association of Mathematical Analysis and Mathematical Physics) webpage. This is a forum that promotes research activities and collaboration in mathematical analysis and its applications to physics.
The "Events," "Seminars," and "News" sections are designed to be wikis that allow registered members to edit the corresponding sections from their user accounts. Each member will have a profile (editable by themselves) that will be visible to everyone. While the technical details for launching these features are being finalized, members can send their announcements by email..

MISSION

The Starting Point

Advancements in videoconferencing technology have enabled the development of remote seminars and conferences in mathematical analysis and mathematical physics. Often, these seminars are promoted only by email or on academic institution web pages, making them hard to track and access. The lack of a single unified platform for advertising these activities, however, has resulted in underutilization of community resources and efforts.

Aim and Scope

The aim of the AMA MΦ project is to create a centralized interactive platform for advertising seminars and conferences in the field of mathematical analysis and mathematical physics, fostering communication and scientific exchange, announcing new findings, attracting scholars, and organizing both remote and in-person academic meetings. We focus on analysis as a mathematical discipline, with particular emphasis on models, methods, and results that are related to, or inspired by, physics. The general goal is to establish a rigorous mathematical foundation that can support physical theories. Key mathematical subdisciplines include functional analysis, operator theory (including spectral and scattering theories), harmonic analysis, differential and difference equations, operator algebras, and inverse problems. While "Mathematical Physics" has various interpretations, in this forum it is understood as a branch of mathematics, specifically analysis.

Membership and Other Initiatives

The main purpose of AMA MΦ is the promotion of important events, particularly online seminars, by collecting and posting links to enhance their visibility within the community. AMA MΦ Membership is completely free of charge, and every member holds and maintains an individual account on the platform, allowing them her/him to organize seminars spontaneously or on a regular basis. We warmly invite you to join this enterprise!
It is important to emphasize that AMA MΦ is neither a competitor nor a substitute for the International Association of Mathematical Physics (IAMP) or other initiatives, associations, and learned societies. It is rather intended to complement IAMP in a new field of activity which is not in IAMP's main focus. Likewise, AMA MΦ does not compete with the many online seminars that take place regularly and, instead, supports these by advertising for them as described above.

THE SCOPE OF

Mathematical Physics

The term "mathematical physics" encompasses a range of meanings. The AMA MΦ is situated within the realm of mathematical analysis—particularly functional analysis—focused on problems related to physics, especially in quantum mechanics. This perspective contrasts with that of other communities.
Other branches of mathematical physics fall outside the scope of this initiative. The field itself is multifaceted, intertwining mathematics and physics in various ways, which complicates precise definitions. Some scholars view it primarily as a branch of physics where various mathematical tools are used without advancing mathematical knowledge. Other focus on mathematical framework, proving new theorems and constructing mathematical theories and techniques. Interpretations of mathematical physics can differ significantly among mathematicians, spanning disciplines such as differential geometry, algebraic topology, dynamical systems, probability, and even algebra and category theory.
